I hear a pastor reasoning with a philosopher out loud. The pastor, totally enthralled by his own “spiritual” intellect, is busy promising an eternal, blissful life to everyone through his specific religion.
But the philosopher plays dumb to this, he acts completely deaf. He says: Everything, everything is in vain and for this man has worn himself out, for nothing. He continues: Therefore, let us eat, drink and be merry, yes, without splitting hairs over religion. Further he reasons, the human mind stands above all existence, as the complete, superior head.
Now upset, the pastor says: I was in the seminary for long enough and therefore I hold firm onto the symbol of the cross. Look, there is indeed a heaven where angelic choirs enchant the deceased deeply. So there is also a hell, yes a horrible, demon hole and it is the opposite pole of heaven.
I hear a pastor reasoning aloud with a stubborn world-philosopher. On one side, flat on the ground, a simple man is sitting, he does not want to be schooled by any of these two. He keeps himself completely deaf, firstly to the pastor. Through his hypocrisy, he has already lost the tramp. The make-belief clever world-philosopher also cannot enchant our man. To the rider of the wagon path, the world scholar appears a little grim, a bit stupid. The “bungler” thinks to himself. I know of bewitching and magic. And really, once I saw a demon posing as an angel. On listening to his counsel, I stole another man’s silver and ivory.
After years in jail, I gave myself over to alcohol. Then my existence did not appear so completely hopeless and rancid. In this evil, cruel world, where men murder each other for fun. Yes, in such an evil existence a man like me does not allow yourself to be suffocated by any religion.
So the tramp is sitting there, holding his own court-hearing over the argumentation of the pastor and philosopher. A lonely, neglected, hungry kitten started mewling and whining over his situation. Our tramp is now deeply enchanted by this poor little animal. He gives his last bit of bread with love to the kitten.
Suddenly this animal now appears to the tramp as a big Messenger of God. He hears the Voice of the Spirit, blissfully, softly whispering deep in his heart and spiritual ear. Yes, he hears: Oh My dear child, with your little piece of bread you have enchanted Me, your Heavenly Father deeply now. Therefore, everything Good and Blissful is stored for your eternity in My Great heaven-kingdom.
