I listen to a Hadada’s laugh that rings out in the middle of the night. I pray and beg for strength. I ask: Oh God, how long do we still have to wait for Your thousand-year day of peace? I listen to the Hadada’s unexpected laughter in the darkness of midnight. And I wonder what is hunting for her nest and eggs in the middle of this night?

I pray and complain about my heavy load. And I ask: Oh, God, why did You also make Noah wait so long? As I slumber in the middle of this night, again I hear the Hadada laughing again. Again I pray and ask: Oh, Father listen to my complaint and give me strength for my heavy assignment. Give me strength so that my heart will soften towards my fellow man. Only You know how deeply I despise the worldly human to the core of my soul.
